Jaenelle Angelline is one of the major protagonists of Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy. She is the prophesized saviour of her people--Witch, the Living Myth, Dreams Made Flesh, is the strongest of all the Blood that ever was or ever will be. She was created by the hopes and dreams of millions of people (human and animal alike) who prayed for a saviour, for a strong Queen who would unite the Blood and remove the taint threatening their very survival. As such, Jaenelle is not human. Period.
She is blonde and blue-eyed herself, with a pointed, awkward little face that she needs to grow into a bit to be considered pretty. She's precocious, clever, compassionate and energetic. She is not afraid of the strange and unusual. Nothing really scares her, since she's wielded more power than any of the other Blood can ever dream of since she was in the cradle, and hangs out with demons and shit all the time. She has secrets, and there are times that she seems ancient, especially when looking in her eyes--she bears a great sadness with her, a haunted quality. And certain things will trigger her to spiral down into a deep, dark, savage rage--but as she's not likely to encounter those kinds of things in the Nexus, it shouldn't be a big deal.
Shouldn't.
Jaenelle is sweet and loving and she hates killing, but she is not a pacifist. She will avoid conflict if she can, but her world is savage, and she may hate it, but she won't hesitate to kill people who need to be killed. She was abused as a child and was led to believe that she was mentally ill; as a result, she doesn't trust her own judgement and second-guesses herself too much. She depends on others for emotional strength.
NAME: Jaenelle Angelline SaDiablo
AGE:12 15
GENDER: Female
RACE: Chailottian (white), and Witch -- the quintessential Other. There are parts of her that are more animal than human -- wolf, faun, tiger, horse, unicorn -- and parts of her that are completely alien. The Blood are descended from dragons and a large part of Jaenelle is shaped that way.
BIRTHRIGHT: Uncut White, Yellow, Tiger Eye, Rose, Summer-sky, Purple Dusk, Opal, Green, Sapphire, Red, Gray, Ebon-gray, 13 Black
PLACE OF BIRTH: Beldon Mor, Chaillot, Terreille
POWERS/ABILITIES:
More general info about Blood society:
The Blood are the magic-using people of her homeworld, generally the nobility, who are capable of feats of magic and psychic power through jewels they receive at birth. The darker the jewel, the more raw power that person is capable of. For frame of reference, in the time that she lives in, the last witch to wear the Black lived 50,000 years ago, and there are only two living people (men, actually) in any Realm who wear the Black--and they're both related. Never in the history of the Blood has anyone wore the Black as their Birthright. Let alone received THIRTEEN UNCUT FUCKING BLACK JEWELS. At her mature strength, Jaenelle is six thousand times more powerful than the strongest living Jeweled Blood (the Black).
A Jewel is an outer, physical reservoir of the raw power a person's body cannot contain. Most of the Blood--even those gifted with the Black--can use up all of that reservoir without any adverse effects to themselves, but Jaenelle's power runs so deep that utilizing even a fraction of its potential has devastating effects on her body, which is too frail for it. It can take up to a few minutes for a particularly powerful person to descend the inner webs and gather up their power stores--for Jaenelle, at her mature strength, it takes three days to fully descend.
Along with the rank given to people due to the colour of their Jewels and social status, there are also several castes that divide the Blood. For women, there are your average Blood women, called witches, and then there are Healers, Priestesses, Black Widows (clairvoyants who work with poisons), and Queens, who rule--Blood society is matriarchal, as women typically tend to have more magical power than men and more frequently wear darker Jewels. A witch can fall under more than one caste, and they're not immutable, although it's extremely difficult to become proficient at the duties of a caste you were not born with. No witch can become a Queen unless born that way. Jaenelle is a Queen, Black Widow, and Healer -- the rarest of all caste combinations, there are only two others alive, and they're her best friends.
A drained Jewel is incapable of being used until that person has rested and restored their power. Trying to use a Jewel beyond its limits often results in it breaking, leaving the witch incapable of accessing that power for the rest of their lives. Women are incapable of accessing the power in their Jewels or doing anything beyond very basic Craft without pain during their menstrual cycle, leaving them particularly vulnerable. The darker the Jewel, the worse the bleeding and pain; it's considered part of the price of their bodies being the vessel for that much power.
For males, there are Warlords (equal to witches), Princes (equal to Healers or Priestesses), and Warlord Princes, who are a level of power all their own, a step above Black Widows and a step below Queens. Men serve, protect, defend--but never rule. Blood society is matriarchal; suggesting anything else is considered obscenely blasphemous. A Court, at its bare minimum, is made up of one Queen and twelve males who serve her, but many Queens have multiple circles and additional members in all of them, including other females.
A person receives a Jewel during their Birthright Ceremony, usually performed when they're young children; they have the opportunity to descend a maximum of three ranks in their Offering to the Darkness, generally done at the end of their adolescence; males tend to reach their mature strength earlier, at 17-18, while women, who are psychically stronger, take longer to develop. 18 is the age of consent, 20 is the age of majority.
Among the Blood, there is no law against murder; it's generally accepted that sometimes people deserve or need to die. Of course, a murdered person's family may seek retribution against the wrongful death of their loved one, and someone who goes around murdering people willy-nilly is likely to be put down by someone stronger than they are. There's always a debt to be paid, and eventually, someone calls in that debt. Rape, however, is punishable by execution--the physical, emotional, and mental violation of rape too often has the effect of shattering a witch's mind and Jewels, and, when cut off from their power like that, they mostly go insane. Breaking a witch in that way is the worst crime that can be committed in Blood society; all witches are valued, none are considered expendable in the way Blood males are.
The Blood celebrate the Darkness, which they personify as "Mother Night," and embrace the wildness and darkness that's part of their natures, with their most sacred holiday occurring around the winter solstice, on the longest night of the year. A common oath is "Hell's fire, Mother Night, and may the Darkness be merciful," which is basically their equivalent of "JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH!" (Jaenelle, being particularly distressing and exasperating, hears this one a lot.)

PLACE OF BIRTH: Beldon Mor, Chaillot, Terreille
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Animal affinity: Jaenelle was mostly shaped by the dreams of the kindred, the animal Blood, and so most of her is not human. She doesn't read like a human to their psychic senses and is more likely to be accepted as one of them. She can speak to animals telepathically, the same way she does with humans, translating their thoughts into ideas that the human mind can process. (Being not human, she finds animal minds as puzzling as human ones anyway.) Jaenelle most strongly associates with big predators and horses.
Clairvoyance: A natural but mostly untrained Black Widow, Jaenelle can read the future by constructing webs, as well as psychometrically read the past and future of some certain objects (most notably the walls of buildings).
Craft: The Craft is the most basic of the Blood's abilities; telekinetic and telepathic abilities that enable them to move objects with their minds, vanish and recall small items, communicate with each other mind-to-mind, etc etc. Jaenelle is abysmal at basic Craft but is capable of insanely complex feats that require a great deal of power--she can move mountains, but she can't call her shoes from one side of a room to the other. For her, basic Craft is like trying to get her to paint on the head of a pin with a brush the size of her arm, whereas she usually takes that brush, dips it in paint, and whacks it around until she has a beautiful Pollock of terrifying feats.
Dream-weaving: Dream-weaving is... pretty poorly defined in canon, but is basically the process by which Black Widows can influence or change reality, either by controlling other people (most people caught in a dream-web don't remember what they did while under its influence) or literally, physically changing the world around them. Most Black Widows don't have Jaenelle's raw power--she can weave real, physical things in and out of existence. Her power eclipses Saetan's, and he once made a dream-web that removed every trace of a country and group of people from existence--past, present, and future.
Flight: Air-walking is the most common manifestation of this phenomenon--levitating an object is a pretty basic Craft move, but levitating oneself is much more complicated. Jaenelle can walk on air as if it were solid ground and float or fly long distances without needing the benefit of wings.
Healing: Jaenelle is a natural Healer, combined with the immense power she was born with; she can heal even grievous physical injuries with very little effort.
Illusions: Jaenelle crafts incredibly complex and life-like illusions, capable of being touched, making sound, and acting independently of her--including a type of illusion called a Shadow, a simulacrum designed to run through basic routines that so closely resembles herself, only other extremely dark-Jeweled people can even tell it's not her, other than the basic, shallow conversation. She can control it from a distance, enabling her to be in places too dangerous for her to physically be present in, and use her Jewels through it.
Shielding: The ability to create a physical (or mental) barrier, generally matching a specific Jewel power level. Jaenelle can create massive or very specific ones, to keep people in or keep them out--she can also disguise them, such as the "mistiness" she created around Beldon Mor specifically designed to keep the undead away. In addition to your standard physical shield, they can be fine-tuned to block out sounds or certain visuals, making them either opaque or see-through.
Teleportation: All of the Jeweled Blood can ride the Winds, psychic pathways that correspond to Jewel colours that circle their worlds, but Jaenelle can dive blindly through the Darkness in between, traveling to any specific area she chooses, disappearing and reappearing at will. She can jump the Webs between the Realms, traveling easily through them (and others) without needing a predefined pathway or Gate.
Weapons training: Jaenelle is moderately proficient (for a young, physically fragile girl) in staff fighting, knife fighting, and firing a bow and arrow.
